Agricultural Commodities Price Outlook

Agricultural prices increase in January

Agricultural prices edged up 2.2% month-on-month in January, after rising 2.8% in December and representing the third increase in the last four months.

January’s upturn was broad-based, with prices for nearly all surveyed agricultural commodities increasing compared to the previous month. Strong Asian demand boosted  cocoa prices in January, while sustained supply fears supported palm  oil  and sugar  prices. Overall, agricultural commodities have been trending higher after China pledged to boost its purchases of the U.S. agricultural production. However, coffee was a notable exception in January as prices dipped on oversupply fears.
