Uranium nuclear power plant

Uranium Price Outlook

The price of uranium was broadly steady in recent weeks. Uranium traded at USD 24.7 per pound on 14 February, which was up 0.2% from the same day last month. However, the price was 1.4% lower on a year-to-date basis and was down 14.6% from the same day last year. The recovery of Japan’s nuclear industry following the 2011 Fukushima disaster faced a setback in late January when a court ordered Shikoku Electric Power Company’s only operable reactor to suspend operations for safety reasons, weighing on the price of uranium. More positively, the UAE’s Nawah Energy Company is now reportedly in the final stages of bringing the country’s first nuclear plant online this year; the UAE is one of 28 countries considering the introduction of nuclear power, according to the International Atomic Energy Agency.
